| The Defner Publishing House is a family
business and has produced photographic cards for over 80 years.
The Defner Publishing House was founded in 1919 by Dr. Adalbert
Defner as a studio for landscape photography in Wernigerode/Harz,
Germany.
1925 Move to Innsbruck, from 1929 in Igls near Innsbruck, where
the firm still is today.
Around 1930 Research and trials with Dr. Heinrich Kühn
and the firms of Perutz (double-coated film) and Rodenstock for
the development of the “Imagon” – soft-focus
lens. Extensive distribution of the self-copied “Defner
cards” in the 9cm x 14cm format on matt chamois paper.
Delivery to countries in Europe and overseas.
1930 Appearance of the first Defner calendar.
1960 Takeover of the publishing house by the son, Karl Defner,
who again passed the publishing house on to his son, Thomas Defner,
in 1992.
1997 Expansion of the firm’s building.
The Defner cards are sold in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and
Belgium. The Defner calendar is delivered worldwide.
Today, there are seven employees at the publishing house in
Igls. The photographs are almost exclusively in-house productions.
